Rural grass cutting

How do we maintain rural verges?

In January 2024, Parish and Town Councils were offered two rural grass cutting services:

Option 1: Standard Service

  • Two cuts per year
  • 1 metre wide cut along the verge
  • Extra cuts at junctions and bends for safety

Option 2: Environmental Enhancement Service

  • First cut at start of season: only at junctions and bends for safety
  • Second cut later in the season: 1 metre wide cut along the verge plus safety cuts at junctions and bends

Please note we will only do extra cuts at junctions and sight lines if necessary for safety when visibility is reduced.

You can find out which option your local council chose here.

If the Parish and Town Council would like to change their rural grass cutting option for the following season, please email the Contracts Management Group contracts.managementgroup@eastsussex.gov.uk by the end of November. Any change requests received after November may not be accepted

We will only carry out additional cuts at junctions and sight lines where it is deemed necessary for safety reasons where visibility is reduced.
