Leaving a positive legacy for communities
Through our partnership between East Sussex County Council and Balfour Beatty Living Places, we are committed to delivering real and measurable benefits to the people, environment and economy in East Sussex, creating a lasting positive legacy.
By working closely with our supply chain partners and fostering individual accountability in our teams, we can deliver targeted and meaningful social impact.
In the first year of our partnership alone, we delivered over £5.3million of social value, saved of over 8000 tonnes of hazardous materials from disposal and eliminated around 108 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Our approach includes:
- Creating employment opportunities and providing employability support for key priority groups including:
- supporting early careers through offering apprenticeships and graduate programmes for local people
- providing supported employment and placements for ex-offenders, long-term unemployed, care leavers, people with disabilities and local young people not in employment, education or training
- Running career awareness programmes in local schools
- Supporting East Sussex County Council’s Net Zero ambitions through a range of innovations on the project, including carbon reduction through green fleet and use of recycled materials on our network
- Providing business support for local SME's and social enterprises, and providing commercial support to local community groups
- Donating resources to support targeted areas of local need, including supporting improved mental health and crime reduction
- Fundraising for local causes and ensuring colleagues make use of their employer-supported volunteering days
- Supporting initatives to reduce social inclusion including donating IT equipment support digital inclusion.
