September 2026
- We have completed the test piling on both sides of the river and have started drilling the main piles on the west side. We will be drilling a total of 60 holes (each of them around 30meters deep) on both sides of the river which will later be filled with reinforced concrete to form the foundation for the retaining walls
- Earthworks on the east side and the ditch realignment continues to progress.

What’s happening next
West side of the river: Bored piling is ongoing and will continue for around 6 weeks. We will be drilling 25 bores of piles on the west side before we move over to the east side.
East side of the river: While piling continues on the west side, works on the ditch realignment will continue on the east side.
Site compounding along the A259: Surfacing works at the main site compound will be completed, and then the site will be fully equipped with all required welfare facilities for workers.
Impact on you
- The main site compound is now being used to store materials and arisings from the construction work. We also receive deliveries of materials at least twice a week. This results in more vehicles travelling back and forth between the bridge site and the main compound, which can slow traffic down and cause some delays.

These disruptions around site will continue throughout the bridge works. We kindly ask that people plan their journeys and give more time for travelling through the site to mitigate this. |
Community engagement
- Jackson team members attended an all-day careers fair at Chailey School, South Chailey on Thursday 17 September. The careers fair was attended by students in year 9,10, and 11. It was an opportunity to introduce students to the world of civil engineering and construction, helping them to gain knowledge of different job roles in the industry and career pathways available for them.
- Jacksons exhibited at the Eastbourne Business Show event held at the Kings Centre in Eastbourne on Wednesday 9 of September. The event presented an opportunity to meet and interact with businesses to foster economic growth in the area and promote local spending by incorporating local businesses into our supply chain.
- Our monthly stakeholder meeting was held on Tuesday 29 September. These meetings are useful in providing real-time progress updates about the bridge works. We have also shared the meeting notes with stakeholders who could not attend.
