July 2026
Vegetation clearance is now completed on both sides of the Cuckmere River. We are now driving columns into the ground in preparation for the bridge foundations to be built (piling works). We expect the sheet piling to be completed by mid-August.
We are currently receiving intermittent deliveries of the piles to site and there is increased movement of materials and vehicles from west to east side of the river.
What's happening next?
We are now in the piling installation phase of the works, to prepare the site for building the new bridge.
We have also started constructing the main site compound following the completion of archeological works. This will provide more storage space for materials as construction gets underway.
West side of the river
Piling continues until the end of August.
East side of the river
We are still filling the area to raise the ground levels in preparation for the piling works which will start in the coming weeks.
How are you affected?
As piling works are now underway, please be aware that there will be some disruption as heavy machinery and materials are transported onto the site under specific road movement orders. We will continue to share more specific details about these in advance.
Community engagement
- We held our monthly stakeholder meeting on Wednesday 22 July to provide project updates, talk through milestones, and explain technical and logistics concerns, so that people have a better understanding of the works. We also shared the meeting slides with stakeholders who could not attend.
- We recently visited a primary school to talk to children about construction and safety.
- We have also worked with one of our suppliers to provide support for East Sussex Careers Hub.
