We are delivering a series of pedestrian improvements along St Helens Road in Hastings.

This is helping to create safer, more accessible routes for residents and visitors travelling to and from Alexandra Park.

The scheme includes upgrades to four existing pedestrian crossings, the installation of a new crossing at Ashford Road, enhanced street lighting, wider pedestrian refuges and build-outs, and changes designed to reduce crossing distances and improve visibility for people on foot.

These improvements have been carefully developed to support a wide range of users, including wheelchair users, people with mobility aids, parents with pushchairs and those making everyday journeys on foot. Alterations at the Bethune Way roundabout will also provide a more direct pedestrian route and improved visibility of approaching traffic.

Alongside these accessibility improvements, our teams are carrying out resurfacing works and refreshing road markings near the existing crossing at Dordrecht Way, contributing to a safer and more resilient highway network.

Once complete, the scheme will improve connectivity to one of Hastings' most visited green spaces while supporting safer, more inclusive travel and enhancing the overall pedestrian experience along this key route.
