Work is continuing at Station Approach in Hastings, with steady progress being made to improve how people move through this busy area.

Located right by the train station, college, shops and main routes into the town centre and seafront, this junction sees a high number of pedestrians every day.

The improvements are focused on making it easier, safer and more accessible for everyone.

Over the past few weeks, we've been removing old crossing islands, installing new ones and replacing kerbs and footway slabs. We've also started work on upgraded traffic signal infrastructure and installing new drainage and underground ducting for signals. Some of the early changes have already made a visible difference, with new pedestrian refuge areas starting to take shape on site.

A key aim of the scheme is to improve accessibility for everyone using this space.

Over the coming weeks, we'll continue widening footways and installing new crossing islands and tactile paving. We'll also be upgrading traffic lights, improving lighting, and refreshing the road surface to enhance safety and usability across the whole junction.

The new design is focused on creating more direct, easier crossings that people will feel confident using, with wider footways to make space for wheelchairs, mobility aids and pushchairs, new tactile paving to support visually impaired pedestrians and improved signal infrastructure to support safer crossings.
