Safety improvement work has been completed on Bayham Road bridge in Tunbridge Wells, helping to make the route safer for everyone who uses it.
The work focused on restoring roadside safety features near the bridge where existing protection had deteriorated over time. Maintaining these features is important to help reduce risk and protect drivers, cyclists and other road users.
As part of the scheme, five new concrete posts and six metal rails were installed to create a strong roadside barrier, providing improved protection at the bridge and helping to guide vehicles safely along the road.
Two new verge marker posts were also installed on the approach to the bridge. These clearly show the edge of the road, particularly in low‑light conditions, helping drivers judge the road layout and travel safely.
This scheme forms part of our ongoing work to maintain and improve essential highway safety features across East Sussex, supporting safer journeys and a more reliable road network for local communities and visitors.
