We've recently completed a series of essential improvements to the deteriorated footbridge and ford on Twyford Lane, Forest Row.

To allow the team to work safely, water flowing through the ford was temporarily diverted using specialist flume pipes. This created a dry, controlled working area and helped maintain a safe environment throughout the repairs.

The ageing footbridge, which had reached the end of its serviceable life, was carefully removed and replaced with a brand‑new structure. The new bridge provides a safer, stronger and more reliable crossing for pedestrians.

Significant upgrades were also made within the ford itself. Additional protection was installed to reinforce the road edges and reduce erosion caused by fast‑flowing water. These measures will help safeguard the carriageway and prolong its lifespan, particularly during periods of increased water flow over winter.

The road surface was then fully renewed, completing a package of works that strengthens both the bridge and ford, supporting the long‑term resilience of the surrounding highway.

We would like to thank the local community for their patience and cooperation while these important improvements were carried out.
