Yesterday, the Eastbourne Town Centre Project Team had the pleasure of welcoming 40 T Level students and their tutors for an immersive learning visit.

The group spent the day exploring different phases of the ongoing improvement works across the high street and town centre, giving them the opportunity to see how a large, complex infrastructure project is planned, managed, and safely delivered in a busy urban environment.

The visit formed part of the students’ industry engagement programme, designed to complement their classroom studies with real‑world experience. Throughout the day, the students were guided by members of the project team who explained the construction methods being used, the safety procedures in place, and the measures taken to minimise disruption for businesses, residents, and the travelling public.

From active working zones to recently completed sections, students were able to observe a variety of activities that showcased the different stages of project delivery. They learned how teams coordinate closely with local stakeholders, manage logistical challenges in confined town‑centre spaces, and maintain safe access routes for the public while works are underway.

The visit also provided students with valuable insights into project sequencing, materials selection, traffic management, and the importance of communication between contractors, local authorities, and the wider community. Many commented on how useful it was to see these processes in action, having previously studied them only in theory.

For tutors, the visit highlighted the benefits of connecting students with live projects, helping to deepen their understanding of the construction industry and inspire confidence as they prepare for future careers. For the project team, it was an opportunity to showcase the collaboration, professionalism, and planning that underpin the work taking place across Eastbourne.

The day proved to be a positive and engaging experience for everyone involved—a chance to support the development of future construction professionals and demonstrate how teamwork and careful coordination contribute to the successful delivery of major public‑realm improvements.

We look forward to welcoming more student groups in the future as the project continues to progress.
