The winter season is fast approaching, with our Winter Service programme starting on Wednesday 1 October.
Every September, we carry out 'Operation Snowdrop' which is a test run of the gritting routes. It allows us to get any overgrown hedges cut back, contact residents about parked cars that may be in the way, and ensure that all drivers are familiar with their routes.
This year, our gritters were out in force on Friday 19 September, training new drivers and refreshing knowledge on the 778 miles of gritting routes we cover.
During the autumn months, we'll be continuing to re-fill grit bins across the county and re-stock our salt stores to the standard (approx) 10,000 tonnes of dry rock salt.
