We’ve recently completed junction improvements at a busy crossroads in Lewes – commonly known as “Prison crossroads".
The site received a complete upgrade, with collaboration from street lighting and drainage teams. Traffic lights were upgraded with the most advanced control and detection available, which will improve motorists’ journies through the area.
AI technology is also in use to determine different vehicle types and predict acceleration speeds. Bus priority is calculated by whether the bus is late or early, ensuring public transport flows smoothly.
New street lighting has been installed to illuminate the junctions with the latest LED lanterns and control technology, along with new road markings and pedestrian crossings for clearer guidance and improved safety.
The area includes ancient architecture, some of which is medieval, and being partially in a conservation area made replacing and rebuilding a complex project.
These improvements have created a site that is easier to maintain with the use of quick release pole sockets and low energy equipment, which should operate effectively for many years to come.
