Work is continuing on the Shinewater Bridge improvement project in Eastbourne.
Recently we lifted bridge by a couple of millimetres over three nights, so that worn components supporting the structure can be replaced. This is one of the most important stages of the project and will help extend the bridge's lifespan for years to come.
Although much of the work is taking place underneath the bridge, both the road and the railway line were closed to install the temporary supports required. We also took the opportunity to carry out additional carriageway joint repairs and safety barrier surveys, making the most of the road closure already in place.
Good progress is being made and once complete, the improvements will help ensure Shinewater Bridge continues to provide a safe and reliable connection for Eastbourne residents, businesses and visitors long into the future.
