Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing in London Road & High Street, Uckfield.

Once completed, these works will help improve the condition of the road surface.

When do they start?

Works will take place between Monday 11 March and Friday 29 March. We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.

What are we doing?

We will be carrying out re-surfacing works to the full width of the carriageway. As part of this, works will include:

•         Removing and replacing the existing road surface,

•         Iron works replacement and/or adjustment – to include manhole covers and gullies,

•         Kerbing and footway repairs,

•         Road Marking reinstatements,

•         Replacement of High Friction surface at various locations.

We will also relay the entrance to the Petrol station, giving a smooth finish and providing a better footfall for pedestrians.

Full details of the works phases, and the timings for each phase are available to view on our website at https://live.eastsussexhighways.com/highway-schemes/london-road-high-street-uckfield-carriageway-resurfacing

How will this impact highway users?

The team will be working between Uplands Drive and the pedestrian crossing adjacent to the Church Street junction.

The road will be closed to through traffic between 7:30pm and 6am. A diversion route will be in place via the B2102 Bell Farm Road, A22, A26 Uckfield Bypass, London Road & vice versa.

Access for residents will be maintained throughout the works. If you do need vehicle access, we ask that you please discuss this with the team on site. Please bear in mind, there will be delays whilst the area is made safe and your vehicle is escorted by site marshalls.

Information for residents and businesses

We will place ‘businesses open’ signage at each end of the work site.

Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.

Buses: During the works, buses will be required to follow the clearly signed diversion route, and bus stops within the works area will be suspended. Clear signage will direct bus riders to the nearest available stop.

Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.

Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens. We do aim to carry out the louder aspects of works before 11pm to comply with the accepted environmental noise levels, however there will be noise associated with a live works site after this time.
