Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing and other associated works in South Road, Hailsham.
The other associated works will include footway reconstruction, ironwork adjustments, kerbs and edging replacements, gully cleansing, carriageway high friction surfacing and lining.
When do they start?
Work will start on Monday 17 July and continue until Thursday 27 July 2023.
We will be working from the Tesco roundabout on North Street to approximately 500m passed the junction with Ersham Road. Some minor works will also be carried out at the entrances to Station Road and Western Road.
How will this impact highway users?
Monday 17 July – Monday 24 July – The road will be closed to through traffic 7pm-6am each night, between the junction with Ersham Road to the North Street traffic signals.
Phase 1 diversion route to be followed.

There are no plans for weekend working during these dates. If you need vehicle access, please discuss this with the team on site to see if this is possible. Please bear in mind there will be delays whilst the area is made safe and your vehicle is escorted by site marshalls.
Access for pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be maintained.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: We will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens. We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause.
Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
