Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out carriageway improvements on Winterbourne Hollow, Lewes.
When do they start?
Work will be carried out from Friday 28 March to Tuesday 1 April 2025. The road will be closed between 8pm and 6am.
We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.
What are we doing?
These works involve applying a layer of coloured, high friction surfacing (HFS) to the existing carriageway to reduce the skid risk of the surface and to improve the overall condition of the carriageway.
How will this impact highway users?
The team will working between the junction with the A275 and the Bell Lane junction.
Access to the road will be restricted for residents for the duration of works. Traffic will be diverted via Bell Lane, Southover High Street, Station Road, Station Street, High Street, Western Road and vice versa.
If you need vehicle access, please discuss this with the team on site. Please bear in mind there will be delays whilst the area is made safe and your vehicle is escorted by site marshals. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Please be aware, these works are being carried out alongside traffic signal improvements which are taking place at the Prison Crossroads between Monday 17 March and Friday 2 May 2025.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: We will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
