Map of works area

We’ll soon be carrying out resurfacing works on Willingdon Drove, Eastbourne.

Once completed, these works will improve the overall road condition.

When do they start?

Work will be carried out from Monday 7 September to Saturday 26 September 2026 between 8pm and 6am.

There are no plans for weekend working during these dates. We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.

What are we doing?

These works involve removing the top layer of the current road and replacing with a new smoother surface. We’ll also be installing a new High Friction Surface (HFS), replacing road marking and adjusting any ironworks, such as manhole covers and drains so they are level with the new surface.

How will this impact highway users?

We will be working between the Shinewater Roundabout and approximately 50m north-east of the junction with Larkspur Drive.

The road will be closed to through traffic, with a signed diversion route in place via the A22 Golden Jubillee Way, B2247 Dittons Road, B2104 Friday Street and vice versa.

For safety, access to properties within the works area will be limited and managed during our working hours. If you need access, please speak to the team on site, as arrangements and routes may change as work progresses.

Please bear in mind, there could also be a delay while the area is made safe for you to pass and your vehicle may be escorted by site marshalls. This is for properties with direct access within the closure area only and there will be no through route.

Please be polite and respectful to the site teams, they are working to keep everyone safe.

Information for residents and businesses

Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.

Bus service: Any affected services have been informed and will be diverted.

Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.

Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.

We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network. Should you have any concerns regarding these works, you can contact us at eshcomms@balfourbeatty.com.

Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
