Map of works area
We will soon be returning to Sutton Avenue and the surrounding roads to finish our carriageway improvements. We previously needed to pause this work due to emergency repairs by SGN.
When do they start?
Work will be carried out from Monday 13 October to Friday 17 October 2025 between 7pm and 6am each night. Please be aware that we sometimes need to change our plans at short notice due to emergency work in the area or unsuitable weather, and we will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site and on our website.
What are we doing?
Our work includes:
- Using high-pressured water to clear the underground drainage system
- Relining of the 20mph zones
- Signage installation
- Vegetation clearance
- Targeted patch repairs to deteriorated areas
- High Friction Surface (HFS) to highlight areas where the speed limits change
How will this impact highway users?
We will be working in various locations, including:
- Ashurst Road
- Dean Road
- Steyne Road
- Heathfield Road
- Fitzgerald Avenue
- Bramber Road
- Chyngton Road
- Sutton Avenue
- Southdown Road
- Links Road
- Links Close
- Darwall Drive
- Arundel Road
- Manor Road
- Kingston Avenue
- Whiteley Close
Access will be restricted to residents while we are working. For access, please approach the closure point and speak to the site team – routes may change depending on the work being carried out. This is for access only and there will be no through route. There may be a short delay while we make it safe for you to pass, and your vehicle will be escorted by site marshals. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
You may experience some temporary disturbance while we are working near your property, including noise and flashing lights. We will keep this disruption to a minimum.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network. Should you have any concerns regarding these works, you can contact us at eshcomms@balfourbeatty.com.
Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
