Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. We will soon be carrying out lining works on The Strait, Wartling and High Friction Surfacing (HFS) works on Wartling Road, Wartling, to improve overall safety to road users.
When do they start?
Work will be carried out from Thursday 22 January to Thursday 29 January 2026 between 7pm and 6am.
We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.
How will this impact highway users?
We will be working in two locations:
Thursday 22 – Friday 23 January: We’ll be working on The Strait, at both sides of the junction with Wartling Road. The road will remain open with temporary traffic lights in place between 7pm and 6am.
Monday 26 – Thursday 29 January: We’ll be working on Wartling Road, between the A271 and The Lamb Inn. Access will be restricted to residents between 7pm and 6am, with traffic diverted via the A259, the B2095, the A269, the A271 and vice versa.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: We will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network.
