Map showing location of works area and diversion route
Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out targeted surfacing works on Station Road and High Street, Robertsbridge.
When do they start?
Station Road: Works will take place from Monday 29 July 2024 to Saturday 21 September 2024. We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.
These works will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to residents and businesses in the area.
High Street: Surfacing works will be carried out overnight on weekends to minimise disruption to roadusers and public transport. Dates and times will be confirmed via onsite signage.
What are we doing?
We will be carrying out targeted carriageway reconstruction and resurfacing works to improve the overall condition of the surface. As part of these works, we will also be adjusting manhole covers and gully covers where required, minor kerb repairs, and replacing the High Friction surface.
How will this impact highway users?
The team will be working between the junction of George Hill and the Bishop’s Lane junction.
Access to Station Road will be restricted for residents for the duration of the works. The road will be closed for 24 hours each day to allow sufficient curing time for materials.
A diversion route will be in place via Brightling Road, King’s Hill Road, A265, A21 & vice versa.
The phase plan for these works is as below:

Access overnight – there will be no personnel overnight managing the TM. Where sections can be opened, we will, however any areas with deeper excavation and materials curing will be fully fenced off with no access. This is for safety reasons and to ensure that materials are sufficiently set/cured prior to be being traffic – ensuring quality. When the deeper excavated areas are left over night (excavated or with new materials curing) through access for emergency vehicles will not be possible because the excavations will be too deep to ramp. As we are completing the work in phases local access will be maintained (subject to closure location) in the unfortunate event a resident should need an emergency service, they will be able to through but will be restricted where they can access based on the phase of works. Overall, we appreciate the disruption to residents and access will be maintained wherever possible, however, safety is our number one priority, and we must complete our works with safety in mind.
If you need vehicle access, please discuss this with the team on site. Please bear in mind, there will be delays whilst the area is made safe and your vehicle is escorted by site marshalls. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Buses: No bus stops will be suspended or relocated for the Station Road portion of the works. The last bus will be diverted via The Clappers, A21, George Hill & vice versa during the closure of High Street.
Waste collection: The team on site will accommodate waste collection and assist with moving bins where required.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
