Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out carriageway and surfacing works on St John's Road, St Leonards.

When do they start?

Work will be carried out from Monday 30 September 2024 and now extended to Friday 22 November 2024.

We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.

What are we doing?

The works involve carriageway reconstruction, surfacing, and road markings to improve the durability of the road and reduce future defects.

How will this impact highway users?

The team will be working in three phases:

Phase 1: At the junction of Western Road and Kings Road.

Phase 2: Between the junctions with Church Road and Magdalen Road.

Phase 3: Between the junctions with Western Road and Church Road.

Access to the road will be restricted 24hrs for the duration of works. The section of Kings Road at the junction with Western Rd and St Johns Rd will be closed under 24hr closure continuously for 7 days. One way system on Kings Road will be suspended as no access onto Western Rd and St Johns Road will be permitted whilst these works are in place.

There will be multiple diversion routes in place:

Diversion 1: Via St John's Road, Chapel Park Road, Ellenslea Road, Hatherley Road, London Road, and vice versa.

Diversion 2: Via Church Road, Ellenslea Road, Hatherley Road, London Road, and Kings Road.

Diversion 3: Via Magdalen Road, Edward Road, Church Road, and vice versa.

There will be no on street parking, and vehicle access to properties will be affected whilst these works are in progress. If you need vehicle access, please discuss this with the team on-site. Please bear in mind there will be delays whilst the area is made safe and your vehicle is escorted by site marshalls. Emergency access will be maintained at all times

Information for residents and businesses

Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.

Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.

Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
