Map showing location of works area and diversion route
Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out carriageway and footway repairs in Pembury Grove, Bexhill.
What does the work involve?
These works include kerbing and footway repairs, removing the existing asphalt overlay from concrete bays, joint repairs and targeted concrete repairs. We will also be carrying out adjustments to the ironworks, including manholes and drainage gullies.
Once work is completed, carriageway surfaces will be left as a concrete finish and no tarmac surface will be relayed. This will improve the durability of the carriageway and reduce the need for future repairs.
When do they start?
Work will be carried out from Wednesday 14 February to Monday 11 March. We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.
There will be no weekend working during these works.
How will this impact highway users?
The road will be closed between the hours of 8am and 5pm.
Traffic will be diverted via Bidwell Avenue, Gunters Lane, Woodsgate Park, Buxton Drive, Canada Way & vice versa.
If you need vehicle access, please discuss this with the team on site to see if this is possible. Please bear in mind, there will be delays whilst the area is made safe and your vehicle is escorted by site marshalls. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Information for residents and businesses
We will be returning at a later date to complete the below phases:
- Targeted concrete bay repairs,
- Ironwork adjustments,
- Kerbing and footway repairs,
- Road Marking reinstatement
We will confirm the dates for these phases via advanced warning signs on site, aswell as online via our website and social media channels. These works involve deep excavations and are more sensitive to adverse weather conditions. By delivering these in a period where weather is more assured, we ensure the durations and disruptions are kept to a minimum.
Parking: We will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.

We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network.
Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
