Map of works area
Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out drainage works on Millbrook Hill, High Street and Chelwood Gate Road, Nutley.
When do they start?
Works will be carried out from Monday 28 July to Saturday 2 August 2025 between 8pm to 6am. We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.
What are we doing?
These works involve repairing and replacing damaged pipework and gullies that will help alleviate flooding in the area.
How will this impact highway users?
A22
The team will be working at the junction of Chelwood Gate Road and continue approximately 360 metres North along the A22.
This road will remain open with temporary traffic signals in place during the day, 6am to 8pm.
However, the road will be closed from 8pm to 6am due to excavations in the carriageway. Access will be restricted for residents whilst the road closure is in place. Traffic will be diverted via A22, A275, A272, A22 and vice versa.
Chelwood Gate Road
We are also working on Chelwood Gate Road from the junction of Millbrook Hill to property named ‘Tarbys Farm’.
The road will be closed due to excavations in the carriageway. Our working hours here are 9am to 4pm. Traffic will be diverted via Chelwood Gate Road, A275, A272, A22 and vice versa.
If you need access, please approach the closure point and speak to the site team. This is for access only and there will be no through route. There may be a delay while we make it safe for you to pass, and your vehicle is escorted by site marshalls. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Waste collection: Access will be granted for any waste collection.
Public Transport: Local bus services have been informed of these works and will be diverted.
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network. Should you have any concerns regarding these works, you can contact us at eshcomms@balfourbeatty.com.
Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
