Map of works area and diversion route
Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highway service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out drainage investigations and carriageway works on Lewes Road, Little Horsted, Uckfield.
Once completed, these works will help improve the condition of the road surface.
When do they start?
Drainage work will be carried out from Thursday 15 August 2024 to Saturday 17 August 2024 between 8pm and 4am.
Please be aware, we will be returning to carry out carriageway resurfacing works from Tuesday 27 August 2024 to Friday 6 September 2024..
We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.
What are we doing?
The drainage investigation will involve a CCTV survey of the underground drainage systems, as well as using high pressured water to clear any blockages.
The following carriageway works will involve resurfacing of the road and drain clearance. The team will also be installing new High Friction Surfacing (HFS) and carrying out ironworks replacements, fencing repairs, hedge cutting siding, gully cleansing, road markings and studs.
How will this impact highway users?
15 – 17 Aug: The team will be working from Rectory Entrance to the junction with Worth Lane. The road will remain open with temporary traffic signals in place whilst the work is undertaken.
27 Aug – 6 Sept: The team will be working from the North end of the buff HFS by St Michaels and All Angels Church to the property ‘Greenboughs’. The works will take place in two phases to minimise disruption to residents:
Phase 1: The road will remain open with temporary traffic signals for siding and other civil works between 7am and 7pm.
Phase 2: Access to the road will be restricted for residents for resurfacing works between 7pm and 6am.
Traffic will be diverted via Lewes Road, Rose Hill, Uckfield Road, Malling down, Malling street, Lewes Road, Eastbourne road, Polegate road, Hailsham bypass, The Dicker, Golden cross, Holmes Hill, Whitesmith, South Street, East Hoathly bypass and vice versa.
If you need vehicle access, please discuss this with the team on-site. Please bear in mind there will be delays whilst the area is made safe, and your vehicle is escorted by site marshalls. Emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: We will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our work.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
