Map of works area
We’ll soon be carrying out carriageway patching works on the A2021 Kings Drive, Eastbourne.
Once completed, these works will improve the overall road condition and provide a smoother journey for road users.
When do they start?
Work will be carried out from Monday 17 August to Saturday 29 August 2026 between 8pm and 6am.
There are no plans for weekend working during these dates. We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.
What are we doing?
These works involve removing sections of the deteriorated carriageway and replacing with a new smoother surface.
How will this impact highway users?
We will be working between the Hospital roundabout and the Rodmill Roundabout.
The road will be closed to through traffic, with a signed diversion route in place via the A2040, A2270 and vice versa.
For safety, access to properties within the works area will be limited and managed during our working hours. If you need access, please speak to the team on site, as arrangements and routes may change as work progresses.
Please bare in mind, there could also be a delay while the area is made safe for you to pass and your vehicle may be escorted by site marshalls. This is for properties with direct access within the closure area only. There will be no through route.
Access to the hospital will be maintained at all times throughout the works. The majority of the works will take place between the two hospital entrances, minimising disruption to access.
For one night, works will be carried out on the hospital mini-roundabout itself. During this time, we shall endeavour to keep Kings Drive open, allowing access to the hospital via the Rodmill Roundabout.
Access to the petrol station will also be maintained wherever possible; however, due to traffic management arrangements, access may be restricted to a single direction at certain stages of the works.
A detailed phasing plan, including information on traffic management and access arrangements, will be made available on our website closer to the start of the works.
Please be polite and respectful to the site teams, they are working to keep everyone safe.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Bus service: Any affected services have been informed and will be diverted.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network. Should you have any concerns regarding these works, you can contact us at eshcomms@balfourbeatty.com.
Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
