Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out essential repairs to a culvert on Hurtis Hill, Crowborough.
This work includes repairing the ‘training wall’, a structure that helps guide water into the culvert, which can become damaged over time.
How will this affect road users?
The work will be carried out in two stages:
- Tuesday 26 August to Tuesday 2 September 2025: we will be preparing the site and removing damaged sections of the training wall. No traffic management will be required during this phase, but you may notice activity and work vehicles in the area.
- Tuesday 2 to Friday 12 September 2025: temporary traffic lights will be in place on Hurtis Hill to allow the work to be completed safely. The road will remain open throughout.
We will keep you informed of any changes to the schedule via advance warning signs on site.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Waste collection: Access will be granted for waste collection.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network. Should you have any concerns regarding these works, you can contact us at eshcomms@balfourbeatty.com.
Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
