Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing in Holliers Hill, Bexhill.

Once completed, these works will help improve the condition of the road surface.

When do they start?

Works will take place between Monday 11 March and Monday 26 March. We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.

What are we doing?

We will be carrying out re-surfacing works to the full width of the carriageway. As part of this, works will include:

  • Removing and replacing the existing road surface,
  • Kerbing/setts replacement,
  • Isolated footway resurfacing,
  • Hedge cutting,
  • Iron works replacement and/or adjustment – to include manhole covers and gullies,
  • Road Marking reinstatements.

How will this impact highway users?

The team will be working from the junction of Barrack Road and heading North, finishing at the junction with A269 London Road.

The road will be closed to through traffic between 7pm and 6am each night. A diversion route will be in place via Upper Sea Road, Buckhurst Road, A269 London Road & vice versa.

There will also be two-way temporary traffic signals in place between 6am and 7pm.

The closure will be phased in the below sections to reduce disruption to road users:

  • Tuesday 12 & Wednesday 13 March - Barrack Road junction to Chantry Avenue junction.
  • Thursday 14 - 21 Thursday March - Chantry Avenue junction to London Road junction.
  • Friday 22 – Tuesday 26 March - The full length of road between Barrack Road and London Road will be closed.

During these closures, access for residents with off road parking will be maintained throughout the works. If you do need vehicle access, we ask that you please discuss this with the team on site. Please bear in mind, there will be delays whilst the area is made safe and your vehicle is escorted by site marshalls.

Accesss for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Information for residents and businesses

Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.

Buses: During the works, buses will be required to follow the clearly signed diversion route, and bus stops within the works area will be suspended. Clear signage will direct bus riders to the nearest available stop.

Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.

Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens. We do aim to carry out the louder aspects of works before 11pm to comply with the accepted environmental noise levels, however there will be noise associated with a live works site after this time.
