Map of work area and diversion route
Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. We'll soon be carrying out carriageway works on Hempstead Lane, Hailsham.
When do they start?
Works will take place from Monday 25 May to Wednesday 27 May 2026, 7pm - 6am. Any changes to the dates or times will be displayed on the advanced warning signs on site.
What are we doing?
We'll soon be carrying out targeted carriageway patching and iron work repairs. We will also be clearing leaves, silt and debris from the drains, in preparation for Surface Dressing planned for later on this year.
How will this impact highway users?
We will be working 50 metres from the A22 to the B2104. The road will be closed to traffic while we are working, with a signed diversion route in place via the A22, the A271, the B2104, the A295 and vice versa.
For safety, access to properties within the works area will need to be limited and managed during our working hours. If you need access, please speak to the team on site, as arrangements and routes may change as work progresses. There could also be a delay while the area is made safe for you to pass, and your vehicle may be escorted by site marshalls. This is for properties with direct access within the closure area only and there will be no through route.
Please be polite and respectful to the site teams, they are working to keep everyone safe.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may notice some noise, flashing lights, or reversing sirens. We will do our utmost to keep this to a minimum.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network.
Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
