Map of works area
Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out carriageway improvements on Heathfield Road, Burwash.
When do they start?
Works will be carried out from Monday 15 June to Friday 19 June 2026, between 8pm and 6am, with the works finished by 6am Saturday morning. We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.
What are we doing?
The work involves targeted patch repairs, replacing and repairing kerbing, sealing the road joints and ironwork repairs to improve the overall condition of the carriageway.
We will also be applying a layer of coloured, high friction surface material (known as HFS) to the finished carriageway to reduce the risk of skidding.
How will this impact highway users?
The team will be working between the junctions of Willingford Lane and Batemans Lane.
Access to the road will be restricted for residents whilst these works take place, with traffic diverted via A265, A21, A2100, A271, A267, A265 and vice versa. The traffic management will be removed each day when our works have finished.
If you need vehicle access, please approach the closure point and speak to the site team. This is for access only and there will be no through route. There may be a slight delay while we make it safe for you to pass, and your vehicle is escorted by site marshalls.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Waste collection: Access will be granted for any waste collection.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network. Should you have any concerns regarding these works, you can contact us at eshcomms@balfourbeatty.com.
Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
