Map of works area and diversion route
Update: 30 June 2026
We won’t be going ahead with these works
It’s important we focus where we’re needed most, which means sometimes our schedules change.
Thank you for your understanding.
We’ll soon be carrying out drainage investigations on the A268 Hawkhurst Road, Flimwell.
When do they start?
The work be will be carried out from Monday 20 July to Wednesday 22 July 2026, 8pm - 6am.
We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.
What are we doing?
We’ll soon be carrying out CCTV surveys of the underground drainage system. We will also be clearing pipework with high-pressure water to remove any blockages.
How will this impact highway users?
We will be working from outside property ‘The Stubbs’ to the entrance of Flimwell Park.
The road will be closed to through traffic, with a signed diversion route in place via the A229, the A21 and vice versa.
For safety, access to properties within the works area will be limited and managed during our working hours. If you need access, please speak to the team on site.
Please bear in mind, there could also be a delay while the area is made safe for you to pass and your vehicle may be escorted by site marshalls. This is for properties with direct access within the closure area only and there will be no through route.
Please be polite and respectful to the site teams, they are working to keep everyone safe.
Information for residents and businesses
Buses: Any affected bus services have been informed and will be diverted.
Noise: Properties close to the carriageway may notice some noise, flashing lights, or sirens. We will do our best to keep this to a minimum.
Parking: We will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network.
Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
