Map of works area and diversion route
After completing carriageway improvement works on Eastbourne Road and Richmond Road, Pevensey, earlier this year, our inspections identified some areas that were not to our usual standards. We will therefore be returning to undertake further improvements and redo some sections of work to ensure that we achieve the quality residents and road users expect.
When do they start?
Works will be carried out on Monday 26 October 2026, between 8pm – 5am.
We’ll inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.
How will this impact highway users?
We will be working in multiple locations:
- Eastbourne Road between Coast Road and Bay Road will be closed to through traffic, with a signed diversion in place via A259 Wallsend Road - A259 Bexhill Road - A27 Pevensey Haven Roundabout - A27 Pevensey Bypass - A27 Dittons Road Roundabout North - A22 Golden Jubilee Way - A22 Dittons Road Roundabout South - A22 Golden Jubilee Way - A22 Shinewater Roundabout - A22 Highfield Link - A22 Lottbridge Roundabout - A2290 Lottbridge Drove - A2290 Birch Roundabout - A2290 Lottbridge Drove - A259 Seaside Roundabout - A259 Seaside - A259 St Anthonys Avenue - A259 Langney Roundabout - A259 Pevensey Bay Road - A259 Crumbles Roundabout - A259 Pevensey Bay Road - A259 Martello Roundabout - A259 Pevensey Bay Road - A259 Eastbourne Road – One way. Please ensure all vehicles are removed from the parking bays. Vehicles left in the works area may delay or prevent us from completing the work, meaning we would need to return again at a later date.
- Richmond Road in the bus stop area with a lane closure in place.
For safety, access to properties within the works area will be limited and managed during our working hours. If you need access, please speak to the team on site, as arrangements and routes may change as work progresses.
Please bear in mind, there could also be a delay while the area is made safe for you to pass and your vehicle may be escorted by site marshalls. This is for properties with direct access within the closure area only and there will be no through route.
Please be polite and respectful to the site teams, they are working to keep everyone safe.
Information for residents and businesses
Public transport: Access will be granted to buses until 9:30pm.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network. Should you have any concerns regarding these works, you can contact us at eshcomms@balfourbeatty.com.
Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
