Map of works area and diversion route

Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out drainage works on Cottage Hill and Castle Hill, Rotherfield.

When do they start?

Works will be carried out from Monday 8 June to Friday 12 June 2026, 8am and 5pm. We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.

What are we doing?

We’ll soon be root cutting and replacing broken drainage pipes and covers, to alleviate flooding in the area.

How will this impact highway users?

We will be working between the junctions of Rotherhurst Lane and Five Ashes Road. The road will be closed to traffic while we are working, with a signed diversion route in place via Treblers Road, Mottins Hill, the B2100, Mayfield Road and vice versa.

For safety, access to properties within the works area will need to be limited and managed during our working hours. If you need access, please  speak to the team on site, as arrangements and routes may change as work progresses. There could also be a delay while the area is made safe for you to pass, and your vehicle may be escorted by site marshalls. This is for properties with direct access within the closure area only and there will be no through route. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Information for residents and businesses

Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.

Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.

Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.

We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network. Should you have any concerns regarding these works, you can contact us at eshcomms@balfourbeatty.com.

Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
