Map of works area and diversion route
Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. As part of this, we’ll soon be carrying out drainage works on Collington Lane East and Sutherland Avenue, Bexhill.
When do they start?
Work will be carried out on Thursday 24 July and Friday 25 July 2025 between 9am to 4pm.
We will be returning on Monday 11 August and Tuesday 12 August 2025 between 8am to 5pm.
We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.
What are we doing?
These works involve root cutting in the drainage system and repairs to the pipework plus clearing the pipework with high pressured water in the drainage system to alleviate flooding in the area.
How will this impact highway users?
Thursday 24 & Friday 25 July
We will be working on Collington Lane East between the junctions of Sutherland Avenue and Collington Park Crescent.
Access will be restricted for residents for the duration of these works, with traffic diverted via Cranston Avenue, Sutherland Avenue and vice versa.
If you need vehicle access, please approach the closure point and speak to the site team. This is for access only and there will be no through route. There may be a slight delay while we make it safe for you to pass, and your vehicle is escorted by site marshalls. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Work will also be taking place on Sutherland Avenue from the junction of the A259 to outside property number 48. There will be 15 minute temporary obstruction boards in place to help with traffic flow.
Monday 11 & Tuesday 12 August
We will be returning to Collington Lane East between the junctions of Collington Park Crescent and Cranston Avenue for further drainage work.

Information for residents and businesses
Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Waste collection: Access will be granted for any waste collection.
Public Transport: Local bus services have been informed of these works and will be diverted.
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network. Should you have any concerns regarding these works, you can contact us at eshcomms@balfourbeatty.com.
Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
