Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. We will soon be carrying out drainage works on Chiddingly Road and Horam Road, Horam, to help alleviate flooding.
When do they start?
Work will be carried out from Monday 21 July to Wednesday 23 July 2025 between 9am and 4pm.
Any changes to the dates or times will be displayed on the advanced warning signs on site.
What are we doing?
The works involve replacing drainage covers and pipes, as well as root cutting.
How will this impact highway users?
The team will be working in two locations:
Chiddingly Road- Between the junctions of Horam Road and Stonehill. Access will be restricted to residents while we are working, with traffic diverted via Pick Hill, Gun Hill, Thunders Hill, Nash Street, A22, A267 and vice versa.
Horam Road- At the junction of Chiddingly Road. The road will remain open with temporary traffic lights in place 24 hours each day.
For access, please approach the closure point and speak to the site team. This is for access only and there will be no through route. There may be a short delay while we make it safe for you to pass, and your vehicle will be escorted by site marshals. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Public Transport: Local bus services have been informed of these works and will be diverted.
Waste collection: Access will be granted for any waste collection.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may notice some noise, flashing lights, or reversing sirens. We will do our utmost to keep this to a minimum.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network.
Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
