Map of works areas and diversion routes

Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. We will soon be carrying out drainage investigations on Cackle Street, Hollingrove Lane & Kent Lane, Brightling, to help alleviate flooding.

When do they start?

Work will be carried out from Monday 30 March to Thursday 2 April 2026, 8am to 5pm.

Any changes to the dates or times will be displayed on the advanced warning signs on site.

What are we doing?

These works involve CCTV surveys of the underground drainage system. We will also be using high pressured water to clear the pipework.

How will this impact highway users?

We will be working in two locations:

Cackle Street will be closed to through traffic between the junctions of Hollingrove Lane and Brightling Road. Traffic will be diverted via Rectory Hill, Hollingrove Road and Hollingrove Lane, and vice versa.
Hollingrove Lane and Kent Lane will be closed to through traffic from the junction of Cackle Street to approx. 830 metres northeast.Traffic will be diverted via Hoath Hill, Eatenden Lane and Netherfield Road, and vice versa.

Information for residents and businesses

Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.

Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.

Properties close to the carriageway may notice some noise, flashing lights, or reversing sirens. We will do our utmost to keep this to a minimum.

We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network.

Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
