Map of works area and diversion route
We’ll soon be carrying out bridge maintenance on Buttons Lane, and Churchsettle Lane, Wadhurst.
When do they start?
Work will be carried out on Monday 16 November 2026, 8am to 4.30pm and Tuesday 17 November 2026, 9am to 4pm.
What are we doing?
These works involve upgrading and installing low bridge height signs and trimming tree branches for improved visibility.
How will this impact highway users?
We’ll be working in two locations:
- Monday 16 November 2026 – Buttons Lane at Walland Railway Bridge. The road will be closed to through traffic, with a signed diversion route in place via Brinkers Lane, Darbys Lane, the B2099, Stonegate Road and Churchsettle Lane, and vice versa.
- Tuesday 17 November 2026 – Churchsettle Lane at the junction with Bardown Road. The road will remain open, with our teams managing traffic through the junction. At times, we may need to hold traffic for up to 15 minutes while we safely complete sections of the work, so please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey.
For safety, access to properties within the works area will be limited and managed during our working hours. If you need access, please speak to the team on site, as arrangements and routes may change as work progresses. There could also be a delay while the area is made safe for you to pass and your vehicle may be escorted by site marshalls. This is for properties with direct access within the closure area only and there will be no through route.
Please be polite and respectful to the site teams, they are working to keep everyone safe.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network. Should you have any concerns regarding these works, you can contact us at eshcomms@balfourbeatty.com.
Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
