Map of works area and diversion route

Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be assisting the Spa Valley Railway and Beaver Bridges to replace the railway bridge on Broom Lane, Groombridge.

When do they start?

Works will take place from Monday 23 February to Friday 3 April 2026 between 8:30am and 5pm. We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.

What does the work involve?

The existing bridge has reached the end of its serviceable life, and the works will involve replacing the entire bridge. The restricted headroom on the bridge will remain the same i.e. 9’ 6”. The road will be closed 24 hours a day while the work is undertaken.

How will this impact highway users?

We will be working to the South of ‘Adamswell Scout Campsite’. Traffic will be diverted via the A264, Tea Garden Lane, High Rocks Lane and vice versa. The road cannot be accessed while the work is being undertaken.

Information for residents and businesses

Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.

Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.

Waste collection: The local waste collection service has been made aware and will be diverted.

Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.

We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network. Should you have any concerns regarding these works, you can contact us at eshcomms@balfourbeatty.com.

Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
