Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out targeted patch repairs on the B2188 Black Hill, Crowborough.
These works are being carried out ahead of the county wide surface treatment programme which is due to begin later in the year. Once this programme has been confirmed, we will provide effected residents with further information.
When do they start?
Work will be carried out from Monday 3 March to Tuesday 25 March 2025 between 7am and 7pm.
On the junction of Hubbards Hill to Red HIll there will be temporary traffic signals in place from Thursday 6 March to Friday 28 March between 7pm and 7am.
On the junction of B2026 to Hubbards Hill there will be temporary traffic signals in place from Thursday 13 March to Friday 21 March between 7pm and 7am.
In addition to our daytime working hours the road will be closed 24 hours a day from Wednesday 19 March to Friday 21 March 2025 between 7pm and 7am.
We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.
What are we doing?
These works involve essential patching repair works to improve the carriageway condition prior to surface dressing.
How will this impact highway users?
The team will be working between the junction of the B2026 and the Whithouse Lane junction.

These works will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to residents. Information on the phasing will be available on our website prior to the start date.
Access to the road will be restricted for residents for the duration of works. Traffic will be diverted via the B2188, B2110, B2026 and vice versa.
If you need vehicle access, please discuss this with the team on site. Please bear in mind there will be delays whilst the area is made safe and your vehicle is escorted by site marshalls. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Waste collection: Access will be granted for waste collection.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
