We’ll soon be carrying out carriageway improvements on the A272, Hadlow Down to improve overall safety for road users.
When do they start?
Work will be carried out from Monday 21 September at 7pm to Saturday 3 October 2026 at 6am.
We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.
What are we doing?
The works include applying high-friction surfacing to the carriageway, refreshing road markings, and installing new signs and posts.
How will this impact highway users?
We will be working between Pound Green Lane and the junction of the A267.
Between Monday 21 September and Wednesday 30 September, the road will remain open with temporary traffic lights in place.
Between Thursday 1 October to Saturday 3 October the road will be closed to through traffic, with a signed diversion route in place via A26, Bunny Lane, A267 and vice versa.
For safety, access to properties within the works area will be limited and managed during our working hours. If you need access, please speak to the team on site, as arrangements and routes may change as work progresses.
Please bear in mind, there could also be a delay while the area is made safe for you to pass, and your vehicle may be escorted by site marshals. This is for properties with direct access within the closure area only and there will be no through route.
Please be polite and respectful to the site teams, they are working to keep everyone safe.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may notice some noise, flashing lights, or reversing sirens. We will do our utmost to keep this to a minimum.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network.
