Update: 9 April 2026
We’ve recently reviewed our highways programme to make sure funding is focused where it can deliver the greatest safety benefit. As part of this review, the planned carriageway repairs on South Coast Road have been postponed.
We know this will be disappointing, and we want to reassure residents that this decision wasn’t taken lightly. Safety remains our priority, and the road will continue to be checked through our regular inspections. Any safety‑related issues we identify will be dealt with, and the site will stay under review for future programmes.
If you notice any problems on the road, please report them to us – it really helps us respond quickly and keep the network safe for everyone.
Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. We will soon be carrying out carriageway repairs on the A259 South Coast Road and Marine Drive, Peacehaven.
When do they start?
Work will be carried out from Tuesday 5 May to Sunday 10 May 2026 between 8pm and 5am. We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.
What are we doing?
We will be carrying out targeted carriageway patching, ironwork adjustments, road joint repairs and high friction surfacing (HFS) to improve the overall condition of the highway.
How will this impact highway users?
We will be working between the junction of Telscombe Cliffs Way and the Telscombe Tye car park. However, due to the central reservation and the need to provide a safe turning point, we will be extending the closure to Longridge Avenue.
Access will be restricted to residents while we are working, with traffic diverted via Wilson Avenue, Warren Road, the B2123, the A27, the A26 & vice versa.
Should you need vehicle access, please approach the closure point and speak to the site team. This is for access only and there will be no through route. There may be a short delay while we make it safe for you to pass, and your vehicle will be escorted by site marshals. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Information for residents and businesses
Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.
Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.
Properties close to the carriageway may notice some noise, flashing lights, or reversing sirens. We will do our utmost to keep this to a minimum.
We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network. Should you have any concerns regarding these works, you can contact us at eshcomms@balfourbeatty.com.
Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
