Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with the National Grid to transport two large pieces of electrical equipment, called super grid transformers, from Shoreham Port. The equipment is being taken to the substation currently under construction near Little Horsted, Uckfield. The transformers will be delivered in convoy on Sunday 27 October 2024.

Transformers are vital components of a substation as they reduce the electricity voltage so it can be safely delivered to local homes and businesses.

The transformer convoy, which has been planned with specialist haulage contractor, Allelys, will leave Shoreham Port around 7am and the journey to site is expected to take around 6-8 hours. They are being transported on specialist vehicles with a police escort, with a top travelling speed of 12 mph.

Details of the delivery route and diversion routes can be found below.

Some street furniture may be removed temporarily in preparation for the transformers journey to site. In some areas, traffic may be held for a short time to allow the convoy to pass.
