Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highways service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out further investigations on the A22, The Dicker, Lower Horsebridge & Hempstead Lane, Hailsham.

When do they start?

Works will be carried out from Wednesday 19 November to Friday 28 November 2025, between 7pm and 6am. We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.

What are we doing?

We will be completing CCTV surveys of the underground drainage system and using high-pressured water to clear the pipework. We will also be carrying out site investigations, including trial holes and core holes, to gather information about the condition of the road, to help plan possible future works in the area.

How will this impact highway users?

Wednesday 19 November to Wednesday 26 November: We will be working on the A22 The Dicker and the A267 New North Road. There will be minimal traffic disruption on the A271 Lower Horsebridge, between 7pm and 6am.

We will also be working at the Boship Roundabout and the A22 Hailsham bypass. The road will remain open with lane closures in place.

Monday 24 November to Thursday 27 November: We will be working on Hempstead Lane between the junction of Gleneagles Drive and the A22. The road will remain open with temporary traffic lights in place between 7pm and 6am.

Wednesday 26 November to Friday 28 November: We will be working on the A22 Hailsham bypass, close to the junction of South Street. The road will remain open with lane closures in place.

Information for residents and businesses

Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.

Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.

Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.

We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network. Should you have any concerns regarding these works, you can contact us at eshcomms@balfourbeatty.com.

Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
