Map of works area

We were unable to complete our carriageway improvement works on the A21 Sedlescombe Road North, St Leonards, as planned in August. The works will now take place between 8pm on Tuesday 15 September and 6am on Thursday 17 September 2026. Once complete, the scheme will improve overall safety to road users.

We will notify residents and road users of any changes to the programme via advance warning signs on site.

What are we doing?

The works include applying high-friction surfacing to the carriageway, refreshing road markings, and installing new signs and posts.

How will this impact highway users?

We will be working between Harrow Lane and Ledsham Avenue.

The road will be closed to through traffic, with a signed diversion route in place via the A2690, the A2100, the B2093, the A259, the A2101 and vice versa.

For safety, access to properties within the works area will be limited and managed during our working hours. If you need access, please speak to the team on site, as arrangements and routes may change as work progresses.

Please bear in mind, there could also be a delay while the area is made safe for you to pass, and your vehicle may be escorted by site marshals. This is for properties with direct access within the closure area only and there will be no through route.

Please be polite and respectful to the site teams, they are working to keep everyone safe.

Information for residents and businesses

Parking: If required, we will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our works.

Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.

Properties close to the carriageway may notice some noise, flashing lights, or reversing sirens. We will do our utmost to keep this to a minimum.

We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption this work may cause, however this forms part of our continuing improvement for the East Sussex highway network. Should you have any concerns regarding these works, you can contact us at eshcomms@balfourbeatty.com.

Please let us know how we did by leaving feedback. Please note you will be redirected to the East Sussex County Council consultation website.
