Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with East Sussex County Council to manage the highway service across East Sussex. As part of this, we will be carrying out upgrade works to traffic signals on the A21 Sedlescombe Road, London Road & Battle Road, Hastings.

When do they start?

Works will be carried out from Sunday 12 January 2025 to Friday 31 January 2025 between 8am and 4pm.

We will inform you of any changes to the dates or times via advanced warning signs on site.

What are we doing?

These works involve removal of the current signalised junction, followed by the installation of new, upgraded traffic signals.

The decision to upgrade this location is due to increased maintenance costs, age, and a reduction in reliability/safety. Updating this location maintains a reliable network that provides a safe environment for all road users but is also cost effective throughout its life span.

We will endeavour to complete the works as quickly as possible, however some delays will be unavoidable.

How will this impact highway users?

The team will be working at the junction of the Sedlescombe Road, London Road and Battle Road, Hastings.

There will be minimal disruption to the carriageway and disruption to road users.

Information for residents and businesses

Parking: We will put out ‘no parking’ signs and cones on the site to advise where parking is restricted. Please avoid parking in these locations as it will delay our work.

Weather: All of these works are subject to favourable weather conditions, for example heavy rain may affect the progress of the works.

Properties close to the carriageway may experience a temporary disturbance as this can be a noisy process and those properties may experience flashing lights and reversing sirens.
